Man arrested in child sex case in Temecula, but sheriff’s officials discourage citizen sting operations
Nov 17, 2024
A 46-year-old man from Homeland was arrested on suspicion of arranging to meet with a minor for sex, authorities announced, but the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said it does not want to see private citizens conducting sting operations.
Deputies responded to Nicolas Road Park at 39955 Nicolas Road in Temecula at 4:25 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 regarding a tip that an adult was meeting with a minor for sexual reasons, authorities said. Upon arrival, the deputies were met with a crowd of approximately 20 juveniles who allegedly were recording the encounter.
Deputies arrested the man on suspicion of sending harmful matter to a minor, contacting a minor for sexual purposes and arranging to meet with a minor for sexual purposes, sheriff’s officials said.
The sheriff’s department also said it strongly discourages residents from conducting their own undercover investigations and arranging to meet with potential suspects, adding that the actions unnecessarily jeopardized the safety of everyone in the vicinity of the park.
No additional details were immediately provided.
Anyone with additional information about the case is encouraged to contact investigator Alissa Morris or Deputy Kevin Au at 951-696-3000.
