SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The Summerset Police Department is warning residents of an old scam that has resurfaced.
The scam starts with the scammer posing as a local law enforcement officer, claiming that the victim has federal warrants out for their arrest. The scammer then demands payment to "resolve the issue" and avoid arrest.
Creating awareness for poverty through art
The scammer might call from a legitimate phone number that could be spoofed to look like a government agency or law enforcement. They will claim that you owe money for the charges and urge you to act quickly.
The police remind the public that no legitimate law enforcement agency will ask for money over the phone for legal issues. If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately.
