INDIANAPOLIS — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on the south side of Indianapolis Sunday afternoon. Public police reporting systems indicate officers were called to the intersection of Heathwood Drive and South Emerson Avenue around 2:55 p.m. on a report of a personal injury crash. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers at the scene told FOX59 and CBS4 a motorcycle and one other car were involved in the crash. After the crash, the driver of the motorcycle — an adult male — was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. IMPD has confirmed that the motorcyclist was ultimately pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the car was not injured in the crash, according to IMPD. The car's driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. The driver of the car will also be subjected to a blood draw, which is standard procedure for fatal crashes in Indiana. Investigators currently believe the motorcyclist was travelling northbound on Emerson Avenue before the crash. As the motorcyclist approached the intersection, the driver of the car involved in the crash tried to turn from southbound Emerson Avenue to eastbound Heathwood Drive. When the driver of the car attempted to turn, they got involved in a crash with the motorcyclist. As of this article's publication, no additional information on the crash had been made available. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
