Shelling out help: Exotic pet surrender event in Suamico gives creatures a second chance

SUAMICO, Wis. (WFRV) - J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue (JRAAR) hosted a successful Exotic Pet Surrender Event at Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve, rehoming 13 exotic animals, including finches, frogs, turtles, and tortoises.
According to a press release, the Saturday event provided a safe, judgment-free space for pet owners to surrender exotic pets they could no longer care for.

Collaborating with partners like Fox Wolf Watershed Alliance, Winnebago Waterways, and UW Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes, the event highlighted the importance of preventing harmful releases of exotic species into the wild, which can harm ecosystems and endanger the animals.
Participants and guests were about to speak with animal ambassadors to learn more about the care of the animals.
