BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — The Bismarck Fire Department rushed to action on the morning of Sunday, November 17th, after a kitchen fire broke out in a single-family home.
According to the Bismarck Fire Department (BFD), at approximately 9:26 a.m., Central Dakota Communications received a report of a structure fire in the 900 block of West Sweet Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the residence. The home's occupants had already evacuated, allowing crews to enter and extinguish the flames.
The BFD states the fire, which began in the kitchen, was caused by a pot that had been left unattended on the stove, which spread to the cabinets before quickly being put out. While the home's kitchen sustained significant damage, the fire was contained to the area, with only smoke and heat damage affecting surrounding rooms.
Winter fire safety prevention tips
The four residents of the house — including two children — were evaluated by Metro Area Ambulance for potential smoke inhalation. The children were released without further medical treatment, and no injuries were reported to residents or firefighters.
The fire was determined to be accidental, and residents were alerted by the home's smoke detector. The BFD urges readers to practice good fire safety habits, including never leaving cooking items unattended and regular maintenance of smoke detectors.
