At least Charles Bassey got some playing time. Coming off a tough loss to the Los Angeles Lakers Friday night, the Spurs looked to exact revenge on the Dallas Mavericks for their season opener loss. Unfortunately, they were dealt a blow to their stars pregame. Victor Wembanyama was ruled out with a left knee contusion, and Devin Vassell was ruled out due to injury management. The shorthanded squad put up their dukes and led after the first quarter 28-23, and even put up a fight in the second only finding themselves down by four at the half 55-51. However, the Mavs blitzed the Spurs on both ends in the third 38-18 and never looked back. The Spurs ultimately lost 110-93.
Zach Collins got the spot start and led the team in scoring with 20 points, six rebounds, three blocks, and a steal. Here, he drives into the paint and finishes the tough shot over Kyrie Irving.

Anytime your two top scorers are out, it’s going to be a tough game. Spurs fans should be proud of the effort shown in the first half and also should be happy to see Tre back from injury. Wemby and Devin should be back Tuesday. Final note: Mamu should get more minutes.
Finally, here are the full game highlights.
