SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- Three different organizations are teaming up to encourage artists of all skill levels to support a special cause. In a building near East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, some artists were trying to sharpen their pottery skills. "My husband and I were a little bit hesitant because I wouldn't consider either of us to be overly artsy or creative. However, it has just been really a delight," Cathy Rasmussen said. "We roll out the clay balls and then we just put it over a paper bowl for a mold. Then, folks have stamps that have been made by first-year Augustana University students, they decorate it and and then voila, we have a bowl," Church on the Street intern deacon Mara Stillson said. The bowls will help an important cause. "We're making clay bowls as a part of a fundraiser to support Journey of Hope, Pueblo de Dios and Church on the Street, all ministries which help provide a central means and a variety of things to individuals who are experiencing poverty," Stillson said. Fire damages Sioux Falls commercial building Each bowl made will be used at a soup supper in February. "People can make a donation to eat the soup, and they can even take a bowl home since they will all be made so beautifully handcrafted and unique," Stillson said. And as each artist perfected every detail, they knew they were making a difference. "Anything that is going to be helping those in need in our community is such a rewarding experience and really is what this project and all the partners in this project is really all about is meeting people right where they are on their journey," Rasmussen said. A pottery instructor from Augustana University also helped with the event. The soup supper featuring the bowls that were made Saturday is scheduled for February 20th from 5-7 p.m. at the Multicultural Center in Sioux Falls.
