Nov 16, 2024
The University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos are MIAA Champions for the first time in school history.
UCO beat Emporia State 55-38 to capture the schools first conference crown since 1998. UCO was led by QB Dawson Herl who went 30-48, 368 yards, 2 TD's. He added 74 yards rushing along with another touchdown.
His favorite target was Choctaw native Terrill Davis. Davis hauled in 15 passes for 203 yards, including a 57 yard touchdown to help the Bronchos jump out to a 21-0 lead. It's the third time this season Davis has notched a 200 yard receiving performance.
Lexington's Jaylen Cottrell and William Mason did the heavy lifting on the ground for UCO. Cottrell helped keep UCO's lead at arms length breaking off a 41 yard touchdown in the third. He had 19 carries for 112 yards. Mason added 86 on the ground, but three touchdowns.
In all UCO managed to notch a school record for yards in a game with 680.
Emporia State started former Stillwater and OSU quarterback Gunnar Gundy, but he was pulled in the second quarter as the offense struggled. Gundy finished 7-10, 44 yards, an interception, and was sacked four times.
After the game UCO President Todd Lamb exclaimed, "I get to be president of a university that happens to have the best football team in the state of Oklahoma!"
With the win UCO will host a playoff game at Chad Richison Stadium on November 23rd. It's the first time UCO has hosted a playoff game since 1998. Time and opponent to be determined.
