LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Kenny Brooks and his new-look Wildcats ended a seven game losing streak to Kentucky’s archrival, Louisville, with a 71-61 overtime win on Saturday.
How it Happened
A sold out crowd inside Memorial Coliseum saw almost every first half UK run answered by the Cardinals to keep Louisville ahead by three at the half, 30-27.
In the second half, Kentucky had some clutch moments from Georgia Amoore, who got Kentucky down to a four point deficit at the end of the third quarter.
Amelia Hassett’s game tying lay-up and go-ahead free throws late in the fourth quarter provided UK with the chance to win 58-56.
But, Merissah Russell gave the Cards a lifeline with a game tying lay-up to send the game to overtime at 58 points each.
In the fifth period, Amoore, Teonni Key and Hassett went a combined 9/10 from the free throw line to help Kentucky end the game on a 7-0 run and clinch victory.
