Motorcyclist in critical condition following Honoapiilani Hwy crash

KAANAPALI, Hawaii (KHON2) -- A motorcyclist was hospitalized in critical condition following a crash on Honoapiilani Highway on Friday, Nov. 15.

The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. less than half a mile south of Kekaa Drive.
Maui police conducted a preliminary investigation, which revealed a white 2024 Chevrolet Suburban and an orange 2017 KTM motorcycle were involved in the crash.

Officials said the Chevrolet made an illegal left turn out of a parking lot onto Honoapiilani Highway.
The 35-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling south within the inner lane of the highway when he collided with the Chevrolet as it was making the turn.
Upon arriving at the scene, paramedics treated the man for critical life-threatening injuries before transporting him to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room.
The 37-year-old female driver and 41-year-old male passenger of the car, who are both from Washington State, were uninjured.
The driver of the Chevrolet was "placed under arrest for the offense of Negligent Injury in the First Degree and released pending investigation.

According to police, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. The driver and passenger of the Suburban were wearing their seatbelts.
