Gamecocks drop first road game of season at No. 16 Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Myles Rice scored 17 of his 23 points in the first half and No. 16 Indiana defeated South Carolina 87-71 on Saturday.
Rice, a Washington State transfer, hit 7 of 10 shots including 3 of 4 from 3-point range and all six foul shots. The Hoosiers (3-0) were never seriously threatened in the second half, their smallest lead being eight points with 1:19 remaining.
Mackenzie Mgbako added 17 for Indiana.
Morris Ugusuk led the Gamecocks (2-2) with 18 points, including four 3-pointers.
Rice hit shots on back-to-back possessions, including a 3-pointer with 17 seconds remaining in the first half, as Indiana opened up a 43-32 lead at the break.
Collin Murray-Boyles scored just two points before sitting eight minutes into the first half with two fouls. He sat again when assessed his fourth foul with 15:34 remaining and fouled out with 8:16 remaining.
The Gamecocks return home to host Mercer on Thursday. The Hoosiers host UNC Greensboro on Thursday.
KEY STAT
The Gamecocks shot below 40.0 percent for the first time this season. After making seven 3s in the opening half, Carolina was just 1-for-9 the final 20 minutes. The Gamecocks were also just 65.2 percent (15-of-23) at the charity stripe.
IU shot 51.0 percent (26-of-51) for the game and was 81.8 percent (27-of-33) at the free throw line.
NOTABLE
Sophomore guard Morris Ugusuk had his best game to date in a Gamecock uniform as he scored a career-high 18 points off the bench. He made a new single-game career high four 3s.
Graduate froward Nick Pringle had his first double-double (seventh career) in Garnet and Black, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds in 33 minutes. He had zero points and just one rebound in the first half.

The Gamecocks are off until next Thursday when they return home to Colonial Life Arena to face Mercer (2-2). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (ET) on SEC Network+ with Dave Weinstein (pxp) and John Williams (analyst) on the call. The game will be an unbracketed contest part of the Fort Myers Tip-Off.
