A 26-year-old man was in critical condition after being stabbed just off a busy Bay Ridge, Brooklyn shopping strip Saturday afternoon, police said.
The victim was stabbed mid-block on 73rd Street between Third and Fourth Avenues in a fight with two men shortly before 2 p.m., police said. He left a trail of blood as he staggered up to Third Ave. where first responders found him bleeding from a stomach wound after a 911 call, they said. The injured man was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he was listed in critical condition.
It was unclear what sparked the broad-daylight attack, but police said they are looking for two men who fled on foot.
Anyone with information regarding the attackers is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
“This is a beautiful neighborhood. There’s such a community base, and it is extraordinarily safe,” Meghan Chadonic, who has lived on the residential block for 10 years, told the Daily News. “So to hear that there was a stabbing, I can only express concern for the person that has been harmed, and I hope that there’s proactive measures to help,”
The local 68th Precinct is ranked among the safest in the city, with 106 felony assaults and 311 misdemeanor assaults reported so far this year, according to NYPD crime statistics. It had only one reported murder so far this year and two reported in 2023.
