Police use helicopter to find, arrest carjacking suspect in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Police in D.C. said officers used a helicopter to find and arrest a carjacking suspect in Northwest on Saturday.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), just before 10 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to an armed carjacking in the 1900 block of 8th St.
There, the victim told police that they were sitting inside their car when the suspects approached them, brandished a firearm and demanded their property.
The suspects then left the scene in the victim's car. No one was injured.

The next morning, MPD's helicopter, Falcon 1, located the stolen car driving in the Third District. Air support officers began monitoring the car's direction and noticed it stopped in the 1200 block of Euclid St.
Officers quickly responded to the scene and arrested one of the suspects, who police identified as 27-year-old Maurice Nelson, of Southeast. The other suspect was able to escape, according to MPD.
Authorities charged Nelson with armed carjacking, fleeing from law enforcement in a motor vehicle and other related charges.
