Bees’ Barton runs to 21st place at state Class A cross country meet

QUEENSBURY – Baldwinsville’s cross country team would cheer on Kamryn Barton as she competed Saturday in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships at Queensbury.
And Barton would stand out, nearly finishing in the top 20 of the individual standings in a field of more than 100 runners and helping Section III to a third-place team performances.
Barton ran with a sectional All-Star team which included Auburn teammates Kyleen Brady and Mary Alice Pineau along with the Fayetteville-Manlius duo of Izzie Sullivan and Jordan Giannetti.
In a time of 18 minutes 20.2 seconds Barton would claim 21st place, bettered only on the Section III side by Brady in 10th place (17:58.4) and Taylor Page, from sectional team champion Liverpool, who was 15th in 18:03.7. Zariel Macchia, from William Floyd School on Long Island, won the individual state title in 17:24.7.
Sullivan finished 25th in 18:29 flat, just ahead of Pineau (18:34.0) in 27th place and Giannetti taking 31st place in 18:42.8. Put together, they and the Liverpool runners helped Section III to 351 points, not far from second-place Section XI (305) from Long Island’s Suffolk County as the hosts from Section II won with 169 points.
