MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- On Saturday, dozens laced up to walk or run in an annual 5k that's all about honoring officers in our city.
For the seventh year, those with the Memphis Polie Department put together the Turkey Trot with Cops.
You may have heard the phrase, "It's a good day to have a good day."
Well, in this case, it was a great day to support a great cause.

Runners and walkers alike lined up to honor officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
"This is the seventh year we are doing this," said MPD officer Kimberly Nailor. "In honor of Sergeant Verdell Smith and Officer Darrell Adams who passed away in the line of duty."
Along with all Memphis Police officers who died while serving and protecting.
Officer Nailor, who is proud to be the neighborhood watch community outreach coordinator with the Austin Peay Precinct, told WREG that this is a labor of love.

"I just want the people to know that we love them and we want them to love us the same way we do them," Nailor said.
There was certainly love and enthusiasm in the air, including from middle schoolers who will tell you without a doubt that they were excited to play a part.
"We are volunteering for the community to help around," eighth grader Kennedy Gilmore said.

Showing that you're never too young to give back to those who give selflessly day in and day out.
And with that, they were off to run or walk in this year's Turkey Trot.
Dozens have gathered to take part in this annual event including MPD's December recruit class. Officers who are walking along the same streets they will soon patrol in order to serve and protect.
So, whether these participants were on the move to take on the 3.1 miles or if they were showing off their moves, today was a good day to do just that.
