HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Hawaii's celebration of Korean culture and cuisine continues to grow as the state marks its second annual Kimchi Day Festival Saturday, with a host of cultural performances, food vendors, and interactive demonstrations at Makiki District Park. This year’s celebration follows the official designation of Kimchi Day in Hawaii, thanks to the passage of House Bill 1950, signed into law by Governor Josh Green earlier this year. The event, presented by the United Korean Association of Hawaii, runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Makiki District Park Field, 1527 Keeaumoku St. Admission is free, though food and goods are available for purchase. Korean culture returns in 20th annual Korean Festival Hawaii A full lineup of performances will take place throughout the day, including K-pop dance groups, traditional Korean dance, live music from local bands, and talent competitions. Highlights include a Kimchi-making demonstration at 12:30 p.m. by local chef Daniel Kim, with another demonstration at 2 p.m. led by Daniel Lim. Food lovers can sample a variety of kimchi-inspired dishes from local vendors, including Kimchi Fried Rice, Kimchi Pancakes, and Kimchi Poke Bowls. A wide range of Korean skewers, grilled meats, and fresh kimchi varieties are also available. Vendors such as Khan Skewer Restaurant, Jagalchi Restaurant, and 88 Mart will be serving up flavorful dishes throughout the day. The festival also offers free parking at Makiki District Park and at Hawaii Christ Church (formerly Christ United Methodist Church). Guests are encouraged to bring cash or card for food purchases.
