This weekend is off to a wonderful start after a fantastic finish to the workweek. Expect more of the same on Sunday as sunny skies and comfy highs near 70º make themselves at home throughout the Piedmont and Foothills. The mountains will also enjoy abundant sunshine with afternoon temperatures closer to 60º to close out the workweek. The good times continue to roll into the start of the workweek, but big changes aren’t far away. A strong trough will dig into the heart of the country by midweek, bringing rain chances into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area as soon as Tuesday evening. Scattered shower chances may linger late into Wednesday, but the bigger story will be the first real shot of winter we’ve had so far this season. Significant snowfall is possible in the High Country by the end of the week as a strong area of low pressure associated with the deepening trough brings energy, moisture, and northwesterly flow into the Appalachians. It’s too early for exact snowfall estimates, but totals approaching 6″ and higher are on the table for elevations above 3500′ Thursday night through Saturday morning. The Piedmont and Foothills won’t see snow outside of a stray flurry north of I-40 on Friday, but the first freeze of the year could happen Friday morning. Highs on Thursday and Friday will only get into the 30s in the High Country, while the Piedmont and Foothills struggle to clear 50º. Tonight: Clear and chilly. Low: 40°. Wind: Light. Sunday: Sunny and comfy. High: 70°. Wind: SW 5-15. Sunday Night: Another nice night. Low: 44°. Wind: SW 5-10. Monday: Beautiful. High: 72°. Wind: Light.
