GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCBD) - A 12-year-old Georgetown Middle School student is facing charges after allegedly making a school threat on Snapchat, according to Sheriff Carter Weaver.
The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office says the student posted a threat to “shoot up the school” if former heavyweight champion boxer Mike Tyson lost a made-for-television match on Friday night.
Investigators say the student later claimed the post was intended as a joke.
Deputies searched the student's home on Powell Road and found no firearms.
The student has been charged with making school threats and will also face disciplinary action under Georgetown County School District policies.
