BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Southern University Jaguars hosted the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions on Saturday, Nov. 16. The Jaguars defeated the Golden Lions, 31-9.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff got on the board first, 3-0, with a 35-yard field goal with 8:13 remaining in the first quarter. The Golden Lions extended their lead to 6-0 with 3:07 left in the first quarter after a 22-yard field goal.
Kendric Rhymes' three-yard rushing touchdown gave the Jaguars a 7-6 lead with 12:30 remaining in the second quarter. Southern extended their lead to 14-6 with 4:33 left in the second quarter after Kobe Dillon's eight-yard rushing touchdown.

Southern continued to add to their lead in the second half as Jalen Woods found Cam Jefferson for a 71-yard touchdown to give the Jaguars a 21-6 lead with 11:34 left in the third quarter. Joshua Griffin's 32-yard-field goal with 9:31 remaining in the third quarter added to the Jaguars' 24-6 lead.
The Golden Lions tacked on a 25-yard field goal with 1:39 remaining in the third quarter to make the score, 24-9. Southern extended their lead to 31-9 with 1:45 left in the fourth quarter after Willie Miles recovered a fumble for a touchdown.
With the win, Southern clinched the SWAC West and has earned a spot in the SWAC Championship game. The Jaguars will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30 against the Grambling State University Tigers in New Orleans for the 51st Annual Bayou Classic.
