Summit City kicks off the holiday season with celebrations, markets and more

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- This weekend holiday celebrations kick off throughout Fort Wayne as some holiday regulars return and some new ways to celebrate find their way into the Summit City.
Christkindlemarkt 2024
Christkindlemarkt returns for the 2024 season, bringing a Christmas market with a German twist. At the market, you can find gifts and decorations to stuff your stockings or put under your tree. You can also find some German baked goods and kids have the opportunity to visit with St Nicholas from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market will take place at Park Edelweiss located at 3355 Elmhurst Drive. The market is free to attend and open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Tour
The "People's Tree" will enter the Summit City as a part of its national 4,000-mile-long tour before it lights up the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol building for the holiday season. The tree, a 74-foot Sitka spruce was harvested from the Tongass National Forest in late October and will visit Parkview Field Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. The trees arrival will be accompanied by remarks from public officials and special kids activities.
FW Village Marketplace
Continuing on Saturday is the FW Village Marketplace, with over 100 vendors for people to pick up holiday gifts while shopping locally. The Village Marketplace runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at SportONE Parkview Fieldhouse located at 3946 Ice Way. Tickets are $8 at the door and children 12 and under get in for free. Parking is free with a free shuttle service being offered to and from the Burlington parking lot.
Parkview Field Holiday Lights
Running until January 4, enjoy the new Parkview Holiday Lights walk-thru event. The holiday lights began Nov. 14 with 1-million lights being on display alongside holiday train rides, craft stations and smores. Walk either the concourse or the field-level track of lights for $10 in November and $12 in December and January.
