AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said homicide detectives responded to a scene in north Austin on Saturday morning related to a deceased person. Police said the scene was located near the 1900 block of Rutland Drive. During a briefing, APD said officers responded shortly after 4 a.m. to reports of gunshots heard at Espero Rutland Apartments located at 1934 Rutland Drive. Police said officers found a woman with gunshot wounds inside an apartment. Lifesaving measures were attempted, but APD said the victim died at the scene. APD said there was no reason to believe this incident was anything other than an isolated incident with no threat to the community. According to police, this incident is being investigated as Austin's 62nd homicide of 2024.
