PLAYER OF THE YEAR Grant Keilin Beachwood, senior There is not a whole lot Keilin can say he didn’t accomplish during the most impactful soccer career in Beachwood’s school lore. The senior attacking central midfielder can add one more accomplishment to the list: 2024 News-Herald boys soccer player of the year. Ohio’s Division IV player of the year netted 42 goals and recorded 17 assists for the 19-2-2 Bison, who secured their elusive first state final four berth in boys soccer in school history this fall. Keilin is a midfielder’s midfielder, with workrate for days, finishing knack, service sense and a strength 1v1, in character and in example that makes everyone in his side better. His 42 goals this year, 18 assists a year ago, 15 multi-goal matches in 2024 and career totals of 113 goals, 45 assists and 35 multi-goal matches are all school records. Paced in part by Keilin’s transcendent skill and leadership, Beachwood went 65-14-4 in the last four seasons, with a state run and two elite-eight charges, redefining program expectation along the way. This fall? With N-H first-teamers Brady Benisek and Carter Richmond leading the charge, Gilmour went 13-3-4 and got within extra time of a regional berth in Division IV after a 13-match unbeaten run to that juncture. Scoring output spiked to 66 goals, with Evan Saline, P.J. Kunchik and David Kleyner all enjoying breakout years in midfield to complement Richmond up top. It felt like a more complete side year-over-year, and Ciuni’s watchful eye from the touchline helped get it there.
