The Lake County commissioners have approved the donation of a 360-degree FARO scanner to the Chester Township Police Department on behalf of the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office. According to officials, the scanner is no longer needed for public use by the office but can be utilized by Chester Township Police Department’s Detective Bureau for comprehensive crime scene investigations. Per the Ohio Revised Code, the board has the authority to donate county personal property to any political subdivision of the state without advertisement or public notification. “As elected officials, it’s our responsibility to lend support whenever we can, regardless of jurisdiction,” said Commissioner John Plecnik. “The donation of the FARO scanner to Chester Township is an investment in public safety, further protecting our neighbors and fostering a collaborative approach to law enforcement.” Chester Township Police Chief Craig Young, in a letter to Lake County Prosecutor Charles Coulson, noted that his office will provide the required updates for the equipment and all required training related to its use. He added that the department is deeply grateful for the resource. “This valuable gift will significantly enhance our capabilities, and our officers truly appreciate the support,” Young said. “Building relationships is important and, given our limited budget, this contribution is especially impactful, and we cannot thank Lake County enough for the unwavering support.” Commissioner John Hamercheck emphasized that the board remains committed to supporting law enforcement partners. “This donation is a testament to our ongoing dedication to ensuring the security of our (shared) communities,” he said. Commissioner Richard Regovich added, “We back those who work tirelessly to keep us safe, and we hope this (action) will bring about positive results to Chester Township and all the residents its police department serves.”
