FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A United States Marine Corps recruiter has been arrested after the Fresno County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) said he was sending inappropriate images to teenage girls, including one he was supposed to be recruiting.  Deputies said 32-year-old Philip Rodriguez is facing felony charges for contacting minors for the purpose of sex, possession of child sexual abuse material, and sending harmful material to minors.  "It's really disheartening to that young person who's got their sights set on serving their country. And this is potentially the first person you come in contact with that is supposed to be a role model," Fresno County Sheriff's Public Information Officer Tony Botti said.  A press release from the sheriff's office shows Rodriguez is stationed at Camp Pendelton in San Diego County and is originally from Palmdale. They sent him here to Fresno County to help recruit young people into the service.  "He was stationed out of an office, but he would go to high school campuses," Botti said. Former Fresno County judge accused of sexual assault appears in court where alleged crime committed Botti said it was in Fresno where Rodriguez met his victims. He said their office learned about what he is accused of doing back in February.  "He had forged these relationships with some of the young people he came in contact with to try and recruit into the U.S. military during that time. They started trading messages. He took it steps further and then started sending very inappropriate digital images to them. That's what got reported to us. And after we found out the first case, we subsequently found out that there were two other young ladies that he had done the same thing to," Botti said. Botti said a warrant was put out for his arrest and on Thursday, after working with the military police, detectives with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested Rodriguez at Camp Pendelton.  Botti said it is likely the Marines will have their own investigation into what happened, but after he posted bail at a jail in San Diego County, he was instructed to return to the base.  "I think it's probably fair to say that Mr. Rodriguez is probably never going to be a Marine anymore. He's really thrown his life away, his career away," Botti said.  Botti also said it is possible that there are more victims out there, due to his role with minors and visiting schools so if you have any information please give their office a call. Rodriguez is expected in court in Fresno County on Nov. 25.
