ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — One of Rochester's longest-running children's programs, "Friendship Children's Center," held a groundbreaking event Friday for a new indoor activity center.
With this addition, officials said they hope to expand existing opportunities for play and growth.
They're building an over 12 hundred square foot indoor playground next to the children's center. Currently, more than 100 children between the ages of 18 months and 12 years old are enrolled. This new space, officials said, will help them exercise year-round.

"The game changer is literally kids getting to play and run. When it's rainy and snowy, they can't play, they can't run and jump and ride bicycles," said Joi McMurtry, the executive director of the center. "So, this way we'll be able to pack them into the huge building where it's going to be - I mean, it's going to be proof that they can have so much fun in the wintertime. We're still going to play in the snow because that's part of being a kid, but when it's too cold or too rainy then we'll have a place to play indoors."
That means uninterrupted play time - even with the snow projected to come our way soon.
