Fresno County gets over $200K to get kids walking and biking to school

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Over $200,000 has been given to the County of Fresno for its Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety program, designed to encourage children to walk or bicycle to and from school.
Officials announced on Friday that the $223,082 grant will support their Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program, which encourages and enables school children to walk and bicycle to school.

According to the county, the grant funds will support:
Development of a Safe Routes to School Action Plan for 10 school sites.
Promote behavior changes for those walking, biking or driving near the school sites.
Perform site assessments, including school "walk audits" around school sites and surrounding streets, focusing on key student travel routes.
The grant program runs through September 2025. The funding was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
