College Wrap: Ace Bailey debuts in Rutgers men’s basketball’s win over Monmouth

PISCATAWAY — Dylan Harper scored 20 points, fellow freshman Ace Bailey had 17 in his college debut and No. 24 Rutgers beat Monmouth 98-81 on Friday night.
After missing the first two games of the season with what coach Steve Pikiell called a “basketball injury,” Bailey made the first shot of the game — a 3-pointer from the right corner. The guard added six rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot in 30 minutes.
Harper has scored at least 20 points in each game this season for Rutgers (3-0). He added five rebounds and six assists.
Zach Martini added 18 points, and Lathan Sommerville had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Abdi Bashir Jr. led Monmouth (0-4) with a career-high 38 points. He was 10 of 17 from 3-point range. Madison Durr added 17 points.
Rutgers never trailed. The Scarlet Knights were 11 of 20 from 3-point range and made 25 of 32 free throws.
TCNJ 86, Baruch 84
EWING — Matthew Solomon scored 18 points, Jonathan Okocha had a career-best 17 and the Lions (3-0) held off a furious rally by Baruch (0-3) to advance to the championship game of the Greg Grant Tip-Off Classic at Packer Hall.
TCNJ led by 19 at halftime and had to withstand 55-second half points from the visitor. The Lions take on Connecticut College on Saturday.
Women’s Soccer
Virginia 2, Princeton 1
CHARLOTESVILLE, Va. — Pietra Tordin got the Tigers (14-5) off to the perfect start with a fifth-minute goal, but the lead was short lived as the Cavaliers (13-5) came from behind to end Princeton’s season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Yuna McCormack equalized in the 14th minute and Maggie Cagle scored the winner in the 48th.
Men’s Soccer
Princeton 3, Cornell 2
PHILADELPHIA — Daniel Ittycheria scored a 104th minute winner in the second overtime and the Tigers (11-6) rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the Big Red (12-3-2) and advance to the Ivy League championship game.
Alex Harris and Danny Lokko scored three minute apart to give Cornell an early 2-0 lead, but Ittycheria responded with the first of his two goals in the 22nd minute.
Nico Nee tied it at 2-all in the 83rd minute before Ittycheria won it with his eight tally of the season. Princeton plays host Penn in Sunday’s final.

Princeton 1, Boston College 0
PHILADELPHIA — Beth Yeager scored in the first quarter and the Tigers (14-5) made that goal stand up in a victory over the Eagles (14-7) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Princeton face Saint Joseph’s in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
