It has been a lovely day across New Mexico with mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures. However, it has been a little on the windy side. A low pressure system has moved into the Great Basin this afternoon. This low pressure system has increases southwesterly flow through the state today. Particularly in western New Mexico. Wind gusts up to 50 mph were reached across western New Mexico. The metro even saw gusts up to 40 mph. The gusts will calm down a little bit tonight. Though they will pick up again on Saturday. Tomorrow the low pressure system will move south towards the Baja. On Sunday the low will continue its track towards New Mexico. Ahead of the low moisture will be drawn up into New Mexico. The rain will start as soon as Saturday evening and last though Monday. The heaviest rainfall is expected in the south and southeast. The rain could even make it as far north as the metro on Saturday. Along with the rain, this storm system will be bringing snow. However, the snowfall is only expected in the higher elevations. Specifically above 7500'. These elevations could see upwards of 6" of snow over the weekend and into Monday. A winter weather advisory has been issued for portions of the Sacramento Mountains and the Gila. This advisory will go into place at 12 a.m. Sunday November 17th and last through 8 a.m. Monday November 18th. After the low pressure system leaves New Mexico on Monday, another heads for the state. This second storm will be clipping northern New Mexico next Tuesday. While this storm will not be bringing very much precipitation, it will be cooling off temperatures. The low pressure will bring in cold air and stronger winds in Tuesday. This cooler air will last through next week.
