RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) -- Young basketball players in the Black Hills have a new place to improve their athletic skills.

Currently the E3 Sports facility has four full basketball courts set up, all in one location.
The primary focus is helping to improve basketball skills for kids as early as 5-years-old.
"The idea was to provide a facility with four courts and a lot of flexibility and options. So a lot of different kids could play sports and get better while having a focus and something to look forward to," E3 Sports President Scott Zimmerman said.
E3 Sports works with FCA Youth Development Programs, which can now use the facility as a permanent home.
"So just having this permanent spot is just my new home. Being able to come here and knowing that this is made, FCA Iron 5 this is set, it's not another school that we're trying to get gym time in on and this is just a permanent spot for us," Stevens High School Junior Hayden Thorton said.
"We want you know, our top level athletes skill players to have the same value as kids just learning to walk and dribble at the same time. You know, we make an emphasis with our coaching staff to say every kid matters that walks through those doors." FCA Sports Director Ted Standing Soldier Jr. said.
For years, any off-season training was done individually, now that can still happen, but the coaches also take on groups each night.
"Throughout the season we have practices, mandatory lifting and stuff like that. But that's not the reason good players are good. They 're good because of what they do in the off-season and just having a space like this to work on your shots, shooting machines to work on your shots. Stuff that you can't do at practice because practice is more for the team you know," Thorton said.
The E3 Facility also plays host to the Iron 5 league, where kids are able to play in an off-season league to get more time on the court.
"We're had a few kids start by 8th grade on the varsity high school teams. So on top of that with the coaches and trainers that we've hired here, you know, the program offers just a great place to build a strong foundation," Standing Soldier Jr. said.
Another addition has been an open gym for adults, who normally don't have many options to continue their love of the game.
"I mean firstly to give kids an outlet and focus. Somewhere to be and a sense of community. I think that that's really lacking for a lot of kids in this community. Secondly, of course is to develop basketball to a different level than what we've had in the west river traditionally," Zimmerman said.
They also will be hosting volleyball and indoor soccer teams throughout the winter, making the space open for even more athletes.
E3 is currently open for training sessions as they continue to work on the new additions to the facility, such as weight training and conditioning areas to help young athletes both on and off the court.
