Family expresses frustration with judicial process over son’s case

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A man accused of murder made another court appearance Friday morning for a status hearing, the trial is set to begin next month.
Corry Jackson has remained behind bars since 2023, and since then his family continues to advocate for him, maintaining his innocence.
During the hearing on Friday, the judge setting another status hearing for next week.
It’s been a year and several months, since Corry Jackson was jailed on charges of murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
ABC 36 News Now spoke with Jackson two months after his arrest from inside the Fayette County Detention Center last year, where he continued to claim he’s innocent, “people know that I didn’t do it and, you know, they holding the wrong person in here.”
In the status hearing Friday morning, the judge setting a final status hearing for November 22.
His trial is expected to start December 16.
During the hearing Jackson’s attorney requesting a witness, currently in jail.
Jackson’s family was at the hearing and expressed their frustration with the proceedings.
“We’ve been in out of court for almost two years now, and from day one, it’s been told that they got an innocent man,” said Angela Jackson, Corry Jackson’s mother.
Jackson’s family is frustrated for how slow the justice system has been in trying to get the case to trial.
“They have an innocent guy, they wasting everybody’s time, and it shouldn’t be no trial, not with Corry Jackson. Medically, it’s messing with me, and mentally, it’s messing with him,” added Jackson’s family.
According to police, officers in the area of 5th Street and Chestnut Street heard gunshots around 10 o’clock on the night of April 20th, 2023.
When they arrived officers found two people who had been shot, later identified as Timonte Harris and Lakeisha Hill.
Harris died at the scene, while Hill later died at hospital.
Jackson’s family says they will continue to support him.
For my son, Corry Jackson, baby, we out here, been out here from day one fighting to get you free, baby,” added Angela.
ABC 36 News Now reached out to Fayette County Commonwealth Attorney Kimberly Henderson Baird, who will be doing an interview regarding judicial proceedings next week.
