FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a shooting near downtown after initially responding to break-in calls. FWPD is investigating a shooting at 647 5th Street after shots were fired in response to a man attempting to get into a house. Upon responding to the initial calls FWPD found that a weapon had been discharged and that one person had been injured, according to Sergeant John Nichter at the scene. The injured person was taken from the scene to an area hospital in serious condition. It is unclear at this time whether the homeowner or the man attempting to get into the home was injured. Officers are talking with witnesses at the scene to find out more. FWPD confirms with WANE 15 that there is no threat to the public at the time. Information is limited at this time.
