GOP releases audio of Griswold telling county clerks about password leak

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Colorado GOP has released audio recordings of several phone calls between the Secretary of State's Office and county clerks of Colorado, in which the Secretary of State's Office said it did not originally want to disclose the voting system password leak to the state's county clerks.
The Colorado GOP said the audio, which was released on Nov. 13, consists of phone calls between Secretary of State Jena Griswold, some of her staff members, and clerks from Adams and El Paso Counties. In audio from a Nov. 1 call, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Beall can be heard telling Adams County Clerk Josh Zygielbaum that the Secretary of State's Office was not originally going to tell the counties about the passwords because it wanted to avoid a "media storm."

"What the Secretary's Office should have done, when you found out about this issue, is deploy people instantly to go change the passwords, instead of keeping it a secret from everybody... It's completely unacceptable that this is our process now, five days before the election," said Zygielbaum.
Also among the county clerks in the audio was Steve Schleiker, El Paso County Clerk and Recorder. Schleiker said that Griswold had "lost complete credibility" in El Paso County, and added that he did not feel that media outlets were going to the Secretary of State's Office for election information, and instead were going to their county officials.
"I got nothing in response to that," said a staff member of the Secretary's Office in response to Schleiker's statement. "I understand and I appreciate all of you [county officials] and your partnership in getting information out there from your office that hopefully your citizens are trusting."
El Paso County Clerk and Recorder calls for Griswold’s resignation
The Colorado GOP and Schleiker have both called for Secretary Griswold's resignation in light of the partial passwords being made public.
“This short audio is from calls between the Department and the Clerks, and is a small portion of what the Secretary and the Department staff conveyed to the clerks," said a spokesperson with the Department of State.
