Jalen Leach’s 27 points help Northwestern survive EIU in overtime, while Loyola and DePaul improve to 40

Jalen Leach scored a season-high 27 points and Nick Martinelli added 16, and Northwestern needed overtime to beat Eastern Illinois 67-58 on Friday night in Evanston.
The Wildcats (3-1) held the Panthers (1-3) scoreless in the extra session. Leach scored the last seven points in regulation for Northwestern and the last five of overtime.
EIU’s Nakyel Shelton hit a running jumper in the lane with 31 seconds left in regulation to tie it at 58. Northwestern missed three shot attempts in the final four seconds, sending the game to OT.
Leach, a graduate transfer from Fairfield, shot just 5 of 12, including 2 of 7 from 3-point range, but made up for it going 13 of 14 from the free-throw line.
Ty Berry added 10 points for Northwestern and Matt Nicholson grabbed 12 rebounds.
Shelton scored 19 points and Kooper Jacobi 14 for Eastern Illinois.
Loyola 73, Princeton 68
Jayden Dawson had 17 points and three blocks, Sheldon Edwards added 13 points and the Ramblers beat host Princeton to improve to 4-0.
Xaivian Lee finished with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists and Dalen Davis scored 17 points for the Tigers (3-1). Caden Pierce recorded 11 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Dawson put up 11 points in the first half for Loyola, which led 43-38 at halftime. The second half featured eight lead changes and was tied five times before the Ramblers secured the victory.
DePaul 84, Duquesne 58
Isaiah Rivera scored 18 points and David Skogman added 16 as the Blue Demons cruised at Wintrust Arena.
Jacob Meyer scored all 13 of his points in the second half for DePaul. Rivera went 7 of 9 from the field, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range, and Skogman added nine rebounds.
Maximus Edwards finished with 13 points and Jake DiMichele 11 for the Dukes (0-3).
