Rain showers wrapped up this morning, but it stayed damp throughout the day as clouds lingered over the DMV. As we head into this Friday night, these clouds are breaking up, and the coastal storm near the Carolinas is pulling away. Northwest winds will push more dry air into the mix tonight, allowing temperatures to fall into the upper 30s and lower 40s. Sunny skies will be on tap for Saturday, giving us slightly warmer high temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s. It won't get too warm because a gusty, northerly wind will persist as we sit between a coastal low and high pressure nudging in from the west. Steady 15-25 mph winds are expected until the evening, after which it will calm down. Calmer winds and clear skies will lead to a chilly Saturday night, with low temperatures into the low to mid-30s area-wide. A stretch of warmer weather will take hold after this for the end of the weekend and early part of next week. High temperatures on Sunday will reach the mid-60s, followed by the upper 60s on Monday. Clouds will pop back up as a weak disturbance passes by to the north, but we won't see any precipitation from this passing front. Temperatures will drop back into the lower 60s on Tuesday behind the front as partly cloudy skies continue to stick around. The stretch from Wednesday to next Friday is tricky as the pattern becomes active again. Two storm systems are at play here, and they are just taking shape along the West Coast as we speak. There's a chance these two systems could collide as they near the DMV late next week, bringing several possible scenarios and impacts. We'll keep an eye on the extended forecast and how things develop, but for now, expect soggy weather and clouds to return for Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a sharp temperature drop. Highs by next Friday may not make it out of the 30s and 40s if enough cold air gets brought in on strong northwesterly winds, and some mountain snow may take shape. Have a great Friday night and weekend! 7-Day Forecast: Tonight: Gradual clearing, turning partly cloudy. Winds: NW 8-12 mph, Low: 45 (39-48) Saturday: Mostly sunny and breezy.
