Dickens Fair returns to Cow Palace for 40th season
Nov 15, 2024
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The Great Dickens Fair is returning to the Cow Palace this month. The fair, which is now in its 40th season, will occupy over four acres of the Cow Palace's exhibition halls, "magically" transforming them into the "winding lanes and bustling play houses of Victorian London," according to the fair's website.

The long-running fair features theaters, pubs, dancing, food and Victorian-themed holiday shops. The fair is populated as usual, by performers portraying characters from Charles Dickens and "the often saucy world of the Victorian stage."
This year's edition of the Dickens Fair will feature new experiences, including port, chocolate and champagne tastings, a "mysterious pub crawl with Jekyll & Hyde and the Elixir of Madness," and the "Dark Garden Corset Experience."
There are six aptly name British pubs at the fair:
The Leather Bottle
The Prince Edward Pub
The Mermaid Inn
Mad Sal's Dockside Inn
The Bohemian Absinthe Bar
An eclectic selection of food can also be found at the fair with traditional English faire like HMS Fish & Chips, Mr. Barker's Bangers, and Oscar's Meat Pies, along with Greek food, pasta and charcuterie. In true Victorian tradition, there's also a roast chestnut cart, a tea shop, and a cakes and puddings vendor.
There is an equally broad selection of entertainment at the fair with shows running throughout the day at the various stages and troupes of actors roving through the fair.
