Dog shot and killed by SF police following attack on smaller dog

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A dog was shot and killed by police in the area of Fillmore and Eddy streets and in the area of Geary Boulevard and Steiner Street on Friday. According to the San Francisco Police Department, a call came in at 11 a.m. regarding three large dogs attacking a smaller dog at Fillmore and Eddy.
The three dogs involved in the attack weighed 120 pounds each, according to SFPD.

Bystanders, police said, tried to intervene and pepper-sprayed the dogs. Crews from a nearby firehouse arrived at the scene, which was in the Safeway Shopping Center parking lot. At the scene, San Francisco Fire Department personnel found a man with bites to his hands and arms.
The man was taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital by SFFD medics.
Police and Animal Care and Control units were able to secure two of the three dogs. A third dog was shot and killed by SFPD. That dog was attacking another pedestrian, police said.

The victim, police said, was in stable condition.
Emergency crews are on the scene and people are being advised to avoid the area. Police are still trying to identify the owner of the dogs. The incident is under criminal investigation.
Traffic delays are expected and people are advised to consider alternate routes. KRON4 has a crew on the way to the scene.
