WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - A man was killed in a fire late Thursday in the southeast Kansas town of Altamont.
The City of Altamont said fire and police responded to the call at 10 p.m. in the 500 block of S. Huston Ave. As departments were arriving, the building became fully engulfed.
One victim, 61-year-old Edward Escolas of Altamont, was found dead as a result of the fire. FourStatesHomePage.com reported that Escolas owned a motorcycle shop at that location where he built bikes and repaired them.
The Kansas State Fire Marshal and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation were called to assist with the investigation.

Multiple area departments, including Parsons, Oswego, Cherryvale, and Coffeyville, were called to provide mutual aid. The Labette County Sheriff's Department also assisted with traffic control.
