Drivers pulled over for going over 30MPH speed limit on Page Blvd in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - There was a "Check Your Speed Event" on Page Boulevard in East Springfield.
The East Springfield Neighborhood Council along with State Representative Orlando Ramos held signs asking drivers to check their speeds. This is just one event of the many happening in various neighborhoods around the city.
Motor vehicle crash deaths increase for teen drivers in U.S.
Representative Ramos said he has gotten a lot of complaints in his neighborhood and others in regard the speeding, causing a safety issue for residents. On Friday, the they held signs on Page Boulevard between 2nd Street and Bircham Street, hoping to slow down drivers who may be going over the speed limit.
"Come out here and remind people to slow down and check their speed. This has become a very dangerous stretch of road. A few years ago, there was a little girl who got killed here in a head-on collision, so not only is it a nuisance, it is a public safety issue," said Rep. Ramos.
Just last month, the city of Springfield announced a speeding initiative to crack down on speeding and keep the roads and neighborhoods safer. An officer from Springfield Police was standing on the sidewalk during the event Friday morning utilizing a hand-held speed tracking device to catch those who may be speeding.
When 22News was there, four cars were pulled over for speeding. The officer told 22News, all of them were going about 45-50 miles per hour, The speed limit on the street is just 30 miles per hour.
