APS: Student detained at La Cueva High School

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A student at La Cueva High School was detained Friday after there were reports that the student was seen flashing a gun on campus, Albuquerque Public Schools officials said.
The school was placed on shelter-in-place at 10:05 a.m. due to a "safety concern." At 11:03 a.m., APS said the shelter-in-place was lifted and all students are safe. Police have the student’s backpack, which La Cueva High School Principal said Maurice Guerin contains the device the student flashed.

Officials are waiting for a search warrant for the backpack to confirm its contents, according to a letter that was sent by Guerin to families.
Guerin thanked the students who reported the incident and applauded school staff and the Albuquerque Public Schools Police Department for de-escalating the situation and detaining the student involved. Albuquerque Police Department also provided assistance, the principal wrote in the letter.
