Warm temperatures are apparent across New Mexico today. Winds pick up as the next storm system approaches New Mexico. Temperatures are reaching their peak across New Mexico today. Central New Mexico is forecasted to see temperatures from the upper 60's to 70's. Southern New Mexico could reach 80 degrees today. These temperatures are above seasonal averages, but not record breaking. A low pressure system has made its way into the Great Basin today. It will continue to track southward over the weekend towards the Baja. This low pressure has been increasing southwesterly winds across New Mexico. This is resulting in strong wind gusts in western New Mexico. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible this afternoon. Due to the strong winds there is also an increased fire risk across parts of western New Mexico. Over the weekend the low pressure will move from the Great Basin to the Baja. In New Mexico, moisture will be drawn up ahead of the low. Sunday and Monday, the low will drift through New Mexico and off to the Midwest. The storm will bring widespread rain and snow on Sunday and Monday. Another low pressure system will scrape across Northern New Mexico on Tuesday. This low will not be bringing very much precipitation. Light rain and snow across the Northern Mountains is all that is expected. The low will be bring windy conditions and much cooler temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday.
