Prescribed pile burns underway in Santa Fe National Forest

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Prescribed pile burn ignitions are underway in the Jemez, Cube and Española Ranger Districts in the Santa Fe National Forest. The Santa Fe National Forest says pile burns in the Jemez and Cuba Ranger Districts began on November 14 and ignitions in the Española Ranger District begins on November 15.

Fire managers say pile burns in the Cuba and Jemez Ranger Districts should take two days to complete. They say pile burns in the Española Ranger District should take one day to complete. Smoke may be visible from communities in the area. Officials encourage people who are smoke-sensitive or have respiratory problems to take precautions.
