RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A Richmond man has been charged with murder in connection to a deadly shooting in the Richmond Justice Center's parking lot and was identified by police as a person of interest following another shooting on Mechanicsville Turnpike. According to the Richmond Police Department, 28-year-old Naim Crews, Jr., of Richmond, has been charged with murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection to the homicide shooting that occurred in the parking lot of the Richmond Justice Center on Monday, Nov. 4. At around noon on Nov. 4, a Richmond Police Department detective was in the parking lot of the Richmond Justice Center and walking towards the building. Police said the detective then heard a gunshot nearby and investigated. According to police, the detective found 34-year-old Timothy Ward, of Henrico, down and unresponsive with a gunshot wound in the parking lot near the roadway. Ward was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said Crews was arrested by Richmond Police officers later that day in the Fairmount neighborhood for a shooting on Mechanicsville Turnpike that occurred the day before on Sunday, Nov. 3. Following an investigation, Crews was identified as a person of interest in the homicide of Ward. According to police, Crews was also charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the incident on Mechanicsville Turnpike and has been in custody since his arrest on Nov. 4.
