RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Model Railroad Show will return to the Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond, showcasing model train displays and train-themed programming. The Model Railroad Show will take place from Friday, Nov. 29 through Sunday, Dec. 1 at the Science Museum of Virginia, located at 2500 W. Broad St., with an entire room full of displays created by members of Virginia-based model railroad clubs. According to a spokesperson for the event, this year's show will feature the HO, N and O-scaled trains and a LEGO display. Guests will also have the opportunity to watch a blacksmith use a hammer and anvil similar to the ones used to make locomotive engine parts on train cars, like the ones displayed at the Science Museum. Educators will offer steam engine demos throughout the weekend and "The Forge" will feature a hands-on collaborative train scene build. Guests can also chat with a model railroad hobbyist and watch him decorate authentic display elements. The Science Museum will be turning the RF&P Forum -- which is the former dining room of the 105-year-old Broad Street Station -- into an interactive family train yard, where children can play with a variety of train sets and make their own conductor hats. The Science Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the model train room set to open at 8:30 a.m. for museum members and 9:30 a.m. for the general public. At 4:15 p.m., the last ticket for the show will be sold. For more information or to purchase tickets for the show, visit the Science Museum's website.
