PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Dr. Jack Warner was inaugurated as the eleventh president of Rhode Island College (RIC) on Friday afternoon. "Here at RIC, we have served our state and region since 1854," Warner said during his inauguration speech. "First by providing teachers for a state -- like the nation -- needing to educate more of their people to advance our democracy and support a growing economy." RELATED: Apply to Rhode Island College for free this Friday "Then, by enhancing the arts and sciences to give students the well-rounded skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a complex and changing world," he continued. "And then, by becoming more responsive and comprehensive, adding programs in business, technology, nursing, health care and social work." Warner was joined by state leaders, students, alumni, his family and others at a ceremony in Roberts Hall Auditorium. Before being named RIC's next president in February, Warner served in an interim capacity since July 2022 after then-President Frank D. Sanchez decided to not seek another term. BACKGROUND: Jack Warner tapped as RIC’s next president In his speech, Warner also highlighted multiple RIC alumni -- including 12 News digital content producer Ray Baccari Jr. 12 News anchor and RIC alum Mike Montecalvo will be hosting an inaugural gala at the college Friday evening.
