MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A mass shooter in Memphis who police say killed three people and put the city on lockdown two years ago appeared in court Friday morning. Ezekiel Kelly faces 28 charges including three counts of first-degree murder after detectives say he went on a shooting rampage while live-streaming it across social media. His trial date has been set for July 14. Ezekiel Kelly back in court; attorney says death penalty case ‘going to take a while’ Back in September 2022, Kelly who was 19 years old at the time, shot six people, killing three of them. He was taken into custody after a police chase from Mississippi back into Memphis. The deceased shooting victims were identified as 24-year-old Dwayne Tunstall, 62-year-old Richard Clark, and 39-year-old Allison Parker. ► MORE ON EZEKIEL KELLY Last year, Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy announced that he would be pursuing the death penalty against Kelly if he is found guilty. Kelly's attorney, Michael Scholl, says there have been some delays with record collections. Scholl also says that dealing with a death penalty case requires a lot of time including looking at juvenile records. "We have several experts on this case that are taking a look at things, we are also waiting for a few more things we need to get from the state," Scholl said. Scholl would not say which experts they plan to call to the stand, but more information will be released in January 2025 during a status hearing.
