MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- For someone with a criminal record, it can be hard to get your basic needs, like housing and a job. Shelby County General Session Court Clerk Tamara Sawyer wants those who live in Shelby County to know that they are not giving up on their citizens and everyone deserves a second chance. This Saturday Clerk Sawyer is hosting her first Community Resource and Expungement Clinic to bridge the gap. 2 arrested after autistic child found in parking lot, exposed to fentanyl "It will be an on-site expungement and there will be no monetary fee of any sort," said Allyson Smith with the Shelby County General Session Court Clerk’s Office. "No ID necessary, no additional documents. When you come through and get the process through our expungement clinic they will let you know what fees and criminal offenses are able to be expunged. So, just bring yourself.” Smith explained what they are doing to help those get back on their feet.  “We try to not antagonize, we try to ensure we get a full view of their circumstances and what they are going through,” Smith said. Recently, the office waived the $100 fee to file an expungement. Smith says it’s their way of telling residents the path to a better future is possible.  The event will be held at Abundant Grace Fellowship Church located at 1574 E. Shelby Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A key component of this year's fair is an expungement clinic where legal professionals will provide free legal consultations and guidance on the expungement process.
