Connect your security cameras to Connect Lex to help solve crimes

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Connect Lex is a program with the Lexington Police Department that allows businesses and residents to register their security cameras to the department’s real-time intelligence center.
The main reason Connect Lex was created is for people in the community to help the police solve crimes and how this can be a game-changer in the way police solve crimes.
There are two levels to the program, registration and integration.
“First of all, the registration is where we see most of our residential cameras,” said Commander Matthew Greathouse with Special Investigations. “That’s where our residents can really get involved and just tell us they have a camera at their home and that they’re willing to share information and video with us when we request it.”
Greathouse adds businesses are also able to register their cameras or integrate their cameras by purchasing a Fususcore device that would share live feeds into the real-time intelligence center.
Some businesses around Lexington told ABC 36 that while they have not signed up for Connect Lex, they think it is a positive program and will look into registering.
There are some concerns with the system…. Such as police being able to look at a person’s live camera feed, but that is not the case.
“If there was a crime that happened in or around your area, what you would do is you would recieve an email with a very specific time and date that we’re looking for. And you have two choices, you can either delete the email or ignore it. Or you can actually share the video if you feel comfortable and you feel it is pertinent.”
As of now, there are more than 1,400 registered cameras and 960 integrated cameras.
Greathouse says this system has helped them solve crimes faster.
“There is absolutely no doubt this is helping with the crime in our community and providing efficient response for our community.”
