DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) - One boy in De Pere got a moment of pure joy on Thursday amidst his fight for his life. Seven-year-old Owen Obey has been battling osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, since the summer of 2023. With the help of Australian social media influence Samuel Weidenhofer, Owen got to meet somebody who isn't just famous but is special to him. Owen got to meet his idol, YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul on Thursday night, ahead of Paul's Friday night boxing match with the legendary Mike Tyson. Appleton veteran receives new car from Progressive’s “Keys to Progress” program "His mum shared how much he admires Jake Paul, watching him constantly and dreaming of meeting him one day," Weidenhofer said in an email. "She said it would mean the world to him especially now, as his cancer is spreading, taking away his ability to stay active in the sports he used to love." Weidenhofer helped arrange the meeting, and Owen was also surprised with ringside seats for the fight on Friday night. Benjamin Merritt Chelsi Weber "I was so happy, I almost cried, but I didn't want to cry in front of him," Owen said. "We had to wait quite a while, but I didn't care, I still got to meet him." There is a GoFundMe for Owen and his family, which can be seen here.
