RIPON, Wis. (WFRV) - More details have been released following Ripon's varsity boy's basketball coach being charged with five felonies for alleged sexual misconduct with a student.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by Local 5 News, 31-year-old Mihai D. Schnell-Harrison started talking to a 16-year-old student after being added to a group chat.

Eventually, Schnell-Harrison and the victim began communicating on Snapchat exclusively. At first, the two communicated rather casually, but from October 21 to the 31, the communication began escalating and started to get graphic and sexual in nature.
The victim stated that the conversations escalated after the two exchanged pictures of their private areas. It was unknown if Schnell-Harrison saved any of the photos.
On multiple occasions, Schnell-Harrison tried to coordinate a meetup and even reportedly offered to get a hotel room for them to go to for sexual intercourse. The victim stated that he did not feel comfortable with this type of meet-up and did not feel it was safe to go to a hotel room.
The pair eventually met up on November 6, 2024. The victim told Schnell-Harrison that he had an after-school activity that would last until later in the evening. With Schnell-Harrison being at the school later for basketball-related functions, the victim suggested that the two meet up in the school parking lot.
The complaint alleges that Schnell-Harrison knew the victim was still in high school, and the victim claims that Schnell-Harrison never asked his age or grade in school.

The two parked their cars next to each other, and the victim got out of his vehicle and entered Schnell-Harrison's back seat. Schnell-Harrison joined the victim in the back seat, where the two began kissing each other.
Schnell-Harrison allegedly guided the victim's hand to his exposed genitals, and the two engaged in oral sex. After a few minutes, the victim stopped, said he got uncomfortable, and decided to get out of the vehicle and into his car to go home.
The victim explained that Schnell-Harrison's response to him leaving was nothing of note, and he "seemed fine and just said okay."
Following the meeting, the two talked on Snapchat but less frequently, and eventually, the victim blocked Schnell-Harrison on the social media app.
After telling the School Resource Officer about the incident, Schnell-Harrison was brought in for questioning and to explain his side of the story.

Schnell-Harrison said that he met the victim on Grindr, a location-based social networking app for the LGBTQ+ community, primarily used by gay and bisexual men and transgender people, and the victim told him that he was 18 and a senior at Ripon High School.
The complaint says that Schnell-Harrison said the victim and he had good conversations on Snapchat and never felt like it was too much.
"He knew the position I was in," stated Schnell-Harrison, meaning the victim knew that Schnell-Harrison was the basketball coach.
Schnell-Harrison expanded on his experience on Grindr, saying that when he created his profile, he put his age at 24-25 but told the victim he was 30-31. He said that he was "transparent with him and was hoping he'd be the same." Schnell-Harrison asked authorities, "Is he not 18, or is there something else?"
That's when authorities informed Schnell-Harrison that the victim was a 16-year-old boy. Though Schnell-Harrison deleted his Grindr account, authorities said they'd work to verify that the boy had his age set at 18, but Schnell-Harrison changed his story.

Schnell-Harrison told authorities "We have a common friend that's 18 out of Berlin." The friend told Schnell-Harrison that the victim was 18. Authorities confronted Schnell-Harrison about switching up his story, as his previous claim was they met on Grindr. Eventually, he confirmed that he had never actually talked to the victim on Grindr, as previously stated.
Schnell-Harrison was arrested on November 12, 2024, and is facing the following charges:
