NEWPORT, Wis. (WFRV) — A 43-year-old Portage resident died Thursday afternoon after being struck by a train in the town of Newport, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say they received a report shortly before 3:15 p.m. from a train operator stating the train had hit a person. Responding officers confirmed the individual was deceased at the scene.
